14 reasons the bus is better than the Tube

Let's take a look how metro.com has listed out London buses' perks (and why it is a better choice of transportation!).

Every time someone storms down a London street red-faced and with fury blazing in their eyes, you can guarantee they’ve been on the Tube.

Never ever the bus, though, because the bus is infinitely better than that hellhole known as the underground… here’s why.

1. Cheaper prices.

Who wants to pay nearly £4 a Tube ride when you can just pay the easy £1.50 fare, even for an hour’s journey?

2. Chivalry still exists.

The minute an old lady or pregnant woman gets on the bus, everyone jumps out of their seats… but on a Tube, half the passengers conveniently fall asleep just in time.

3. You can still text.

No wonder everyone looks so miserable on the Tube. What are you supposed to do for an hour? Play Candy Crush? Flick through old photos on your phone? Far better to be above ground with access to Instagram, Facebook and all the pointless internet surfing you could dream of.

4. …. Or even call!

We wouldn’t recommend enraging all the other bus passengers with your dull conversation, but still: the option is there.

5. People actually speak to each other.

If you ever said ‘good morning’ to someone on your Tube carriage, it would be akin to setting them on fire. On the bus, people do occasionally chat – it really does happen.

6. It's much easier to get a seat.

Yes, even in rush hour.

7. You can actually see the world around you.

Instead of just staring at the miserable man opposite you as he not-so-surreptitiously scratches his crotch, you can watch your own city flash past and people-watch to your heart’s content.

8. It's way more comfortable.

You can stretch your legs out, plonk your bags down – and it’s much less awkward if you’re carrying a suitcase or two.

9. You don’t have to run up and down millions of awful stairs.

Anyone who has ever schlepped a huge suitcase through the maze that is Euston station will understand the struggle of making your way through an enormous station filled with more steps than the Eiffel Tower.

10.You can befriend the driver.

Can’t do that on the Tube, can you?

11.Waiting for the bus is much less terrifying

You can perch in the bus stop, a safe distance from the road, rather than waiting behind the perilous yellow line, your life in the hands of your fellow passengers.

12. It's so much less sweaty.

You can actually breathe on the bus without having to shove your face into someone’s armpit.

13. Buses are more reliable.

Tube strikes happen all the time, but bus strikes? Not so often.

14. There are many more songs about the bus

‘The wheels on the bus go round and round’ beats ‘The London Underground song’ in our opinion – and reflects that everyone really does prefer the bus to the nasty, nasty Tube.
